Borrego's Nessy 8x10 oil on a panel

In this beautiful desert valley Anza Borrego are some very well made sculptures. One of the valleys land owners paid this artist to create at least 20 metal sculptures to create interest for families and desert visitors to enjoy while visiting here. The land owner owns quite a few acres so these sculptures  are peppered around, any store will have maps to enjoy a tour to see each one.

I have always wanted to paint this particular one because of the size and how well done it is.

His creativity has allowed him to create this so as it looks like this monster is coming out of the ground half of him is on one side of the street and his tail is on the other.
If you ever visit this part of so cal I think that you would also enjoy this beautiful piece.

I look at this and think of those Sundays my hubby was off and the kids wanted to go to the beach, or eating out down on the coast and just wanted to walk off the dinner and enjoy the sunset. I think that the only missing which I should have added was the family dog, off chasing the seagulls and running from the waves.

This is another of my daily paintings and really this day I was able to get 2 complete.

Here is to family that comes and goes so quick, we really need to savor the precious moments.

There is so much here in this little valley Anza Borrego. This is the last of my 2 day trip with other artist, and the very last painting of the day. I think that it really captures how comfortable and beautiful this quaint town is. Many movie stars stayed here back in the day maybe they even go now but I don't know all the gossip.
I did go back the next week and I have that for the next blog

Until then

Taller than everyone else 8x8 oil on a Panel

This is number 4 of the 5 plein air paintings that I did. I was working on learning to paint outdoors for you those that don't paint, you might be wondering what is different painting from a picture or still life than painting from a outside scene.
Really all painting methods vary depending on what and where you are painting. Painting from a photo is the easiest because it doesn't change but it is harder if you really want to show all the value and make it look not flat.
Painting a still life is the second easiest because the light and the object stays still, Hmmm maybe that is where they got still life, duh right? it is a little like painting from the outdoors because it is real life and all the values are there so painting from the real 3d.
Painting plein air is the most difficult for me because to capture the life you see you must know the procedure to put down fast what you see. The light is constantly changing.

Many Plein air artist believe that it is the truest form out of the methods and will only paint that method.

So here are my attempts

This is number 3 of 5 plein air painting that I did with a well known artist, It was very difficult to pick what to paint every where you looked it was just beautiful. I was very lucky to paint with 6 other artist so there were 6 different interpretations of the same beauty. One artist even had a style that I think looked like a very cool folk art.

Here is my painting of a wash that was headed to the base of the mountain.

I am hooked I am going to keep trying this outdoor painting

Which way? 8x8 Oil on a panel

On my first day out with an awesome landscape artist to teach me and 5 other very good painter I was able to paint 3 paintings.
The weather was amazing not too hot and definitely not cold, as Goldy Locks phrased it just. right.

Each one of us picked the best place to create the painting that would make us happy.
I had 3 different sites and every one just as scenic as the other it really was hard to decide. I finally did decide and here is my second one.

This day I learned a completely different method then I had learned before and really it make so much sense while doing an outdoor plein air scene to adapt this method.

Now to practice and hope to someday master it.

I did this great workshop this week and wow it was amazing
Mark Kerchoff is a great plein landscape artist that has been painting full time for a long time.
He had so much knowledge and skills that I just wanted to suck every bit from him.
Going outside and finding something to paint is not that easy for me. Of course there is so much out there to paint but putting it together and making a good painting is very hard. This guy now friend and great painter was a great asset to me this last two days. My new hope is that I go out there and paint and use what I learned without forgetting it all.

I will be posting the 5 paintings that I painted in my 2 glorious days.

Forever Home 9x12 oil on a panel

While out and about this weekend we stopped by to see how the people at slab city were doing, there
are a lot more people this year then we had seen in the past. We checked out the awesome art on the abandoned water towers and went to see some friends we had met the last time we visited here. We drove around in a area we missed the last time and wow we met some more art friends they are staying at an art compound named East Jesus. Every person we met that day were amazing and made our day.
On this compound was at one time a dump it was full of trash that they turned into fun Art. The founder bought the poor site and turned it into a place for artist to go and hang out and create. All the artist have taken the trash that was there and turned it all in to master pieces that cover the grounds.
The plane I have painted here was painted that day on site. The plane was left to the people to have and to hold forever. The plane has a new home amoung the art and looks amazing.

So little time and so much to learn I can't believe how much there is to learn to be able to paint all the many things that I really want to paint.
This bus has been something I have alway wanted to paint, I will keep on painting it until I get all the positions that will show how totally cool these old things are. I think that some of these have sold for upwards of 100,000.00 crazy right I think that they were in the thousands when they were new.

Anyway here is my version of a what most consider a hippie bus
