I am not sure why but as a kid I loved the piggy bank, I remember them so well mostly made in Mexico and when it broke it was in pieces of white clay can't remember what that material was.

When I saw this cute pig, I had to paint it.  I could have made it any color but pink just seemed to suit this little guy.

what are your memories of the piggy bank.

Water or Gas? 8x8 oil on a panel

I was so happy that I was able to spend my thanksgiving with my dad in Salome AZ, He is growing older and I always hope that I am able to spend as much time as I can.
His wife is an antique dealer and really very good at it. I love antiques so it is a plus for me to browse her beautiful shop. I have to admit I could only think the whole time was I would love to paint that and that and that.
I did try to take a few things outside so as to paint them but I found that wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be. I need so much more practice. I was finally finished after hours one painting. This is a watering can that my dad uses to fill all the bird feeders with waters and the fuel can was from her collection and the wheel was part of the desert landscape put them together and this was what I got.

Seems that is all I do is scavenge. but they do have so many memories for me

Missing the Fruit 6x6 oil on a panel

Working on my still life painting skills at work. I had to scavenge around to find something that looked good to paint, Hopefully it is plain in my painting on what things I found to paint.

It is nice when I am able to paint at work because my set up is different and the lighting is different so makes things a little different. How many times did I say different WOW anyway hope you had a great thanksgiving

Just Right 8x10 oil on a panel

Just right, if you are a women you will understand that it is important to have the right size purse, If you get one that is too big you put too much stuff in it and then it is heavy I guess perhaps it would make a great weapon. But if you have one too small then of course you can't get all the very important things you need. So when you get the right size it makes life as a women better. A cute one is a big plus.
So you see this one for me is just right.

Just 15min 8x8 oil on a panel

Click To Buy

One more time how do I think of things to paint? Honestly I would love to hear from other artist that paint still life on why they paint what they paint. I can only tell you that I just see it and I want to paint it.
Maybe it is a subconscious thing, but it always seems that it reminds me of something after I am finished.
Todays came from a morning when I was cooking hard boiled eggs for myself I love an egg in the morning. So I just saw it then I wanted to paint it.

Not all the things I think would be great to paint work out as I try to arrange the items they just don't work, and sometimes what I like no-one else likes. I hope that does not stop me because I am finding that really the only thing that matters is to just paint.

So hope you like today's

Being so new to painting and even more to painting still life every subject is a new challenge for me.
I sometimes think after why I picked some the things I did.

My husband loves to dip his cookies in milk yeah, me not so much, I hate soggy cookies, so this reminded me of our fun differences.

How many of you left cookies for Santa or as an adult for your children, fun times to remember.

How about you do you dip your cookies

Two is enough 6x6 oil on a panel

Click to Buy

We live in a rural area, the nearest convenience store is at least 15min from our house and the grocery store is 30 min away. So when you want to make a recipe and it call for eggs  I hope I have them. What sometimes creates a panic is the fact that we have our adults kids living with us and so I am never sure what supplies I do have.

With all that being said, when I saw the carton on the table with only 2 eggs my thoughts rushed back to those moments when there were not enough and to the glorious days when there was just enough.

This is a great reminder to the days there are just enough, and that makes me happy. Of course I am not only talking about eggs we can use the in every aspect of our lives.

Praying for more just enoughs

This painting I painted from a scene that she saw and loved

Hope you do to.

When I have a whole day to paint I go through my photos and then because I have been told it is important to paint from life I look around the house to see if I can create a fun still life to paint. So after a still life I paint something that I really wanted to paint. These balloons just called out to me well screamed out, not sure if it was because the next day it was my husbands birthday I love birthdays and balloons so could be both,

Why do you paint or create what you create.

Sunshine on my Face 6x6

I still believe the best thing that happened to me to help improve my art was my workshop with Carol Marine, I learned more than I could digest in one week I am still practicing and practicing the fundamentals the she taught, Value and composition seem to be what makes things a success for me, Still have a long way to go but I am moving the bar.
This little painting was done in class I still think it was my favorite. I brought the vase and I picked the flower from outside my hotel room.

So off I go more practice. Whew a lot more practice.

"Heads up 7up" 6x6 stretched canvas.

CLICK TO BUY

One more day starting it out painting a small still life study, I always hope that after I am done I have more time to paint something else I try to finish the second painting in one day but doesn't always work out that way.

How many painting do you do in a day, week or month.

My house is filling up I really love it when someone wants to purchase one, I do give some away the paintings that I copy because I really am not supposed to sell them. So I work real hard to do an original when I do my daily one and again if I have time I might work on one of those I am not going to sell.

After writing this I did do a painting ugh! all day and well it was one of those that was wiped off I hated it.

OH WELL until next time

"Life" 6x6 oil on acrylic on a stretched canvas

CLICK TO BUY

This painting I used oils over the acrylics for the first time and I like how it turned out.  To me I brought back this background with life.

The intimidating white canvas, some artist tone them to start others just go for it. I sometimes have some that I have some paint on them from a left over pallet of acrylic and I just don't want to waste it.

I leave these around so that I can always see them so, when I see something that I think will look good on that background I add it.

This painting I used oils over the acrylics for the first time and I like how it turned out.

How do you deal with the white canvas phenomena

BEWARE A Trojan horse silly and you are a Roma 6x6 oil on a panel

Click to bid

Two Roma tomatoes checking out what seems to be a Trojan Horse.

What is the Trojan horse in your life or art, for me it is comparing, which Leeds to negative thoughts.

I was just  talking with a fellow artist and just like most artist her and I share in the downward spiral of comparing ourselves to other artist. You see most of us are not really happy with our own art we are all striving to be better and sometimes it seem we will never get there and it is tempting to just give up. But giving up doesn’t work because the urge to create is there and it won’t go away. If you are reading this you need to know the artist I am talking about are selling art and are amazing. So stop.

So fellow artist just know you are what the worlds needs please don’t stop.

Challenging yourself. "Night Out" 6x6 oil on a panel

This is a perfume bottle in my daughters bathroom love the crystal stopper.

I did this frightened to death because of the crystal looked so hard I may not have captured it perfectly but I can try again someday.

It seems when you are new to painting there are those things that you want to paint but you don't because it looks to hard, so that means you are scared. I found out that a lot of artist have this fear and really everyone of them does one time or another. I first thought that I was weird to be afraid because I could only think afraid of what, it doesn't seem logical. I think real fear should be heights, scary killers or maybe even snakes. I never thought this would happen in art. but fear is real and all experience it.
The only thing that helps me is just to press on material is not that expensive and you can alway wipe it off, or paint over it. SO get over it I tell myself.

So if you are scared just get over it.
