How do you decide to what to paint? 6x6 oil on a panel"Big Eyes" again

If you are one that is working on painting everyday to get a collection of work or if you are like me just really trying to improve your painting skills. I am thinking after awhile you will find it hard to think of something to paint or not.
I have been painting daily for over 45 days so far I have a lot of things to paint. I have been enjoying the challenge but I think of the painters I know that have been doing this for years. I saw one artist friend paint a roll of toilet paper and one of her friend asked why she did. I say everything is open game especially if it is standing still. I wonder if any of the old century masters painted toilet paper, I think it would be great then we have record of it right?

I painted this guy because he was there.

So what do you paint and why?

Workshops yes or no.

If you have been following my blogs I think that you know that, I am new to the fine arts world, so being new has some dilemmas or questions. One question I have had was weather or not it made sense to attend workshops some of them are very expensive. I have done workshops on line and I attended one workshop person. I have to say I really love the one I attended in person it was only one week but it jumped started my skill a lot. I have paid for some online and wasn't really that happy, but there were a few that I was very happy with.

So to answer the question workshop yes or no. I loved two of mine online workshops but the one that helped me to grow the most was the one I attended in person.

If you have a painter or artist, that you admire check to see if they have workshops check the reviews, because many of the people I attended the workshop in person with shared that they have attended many and lots of them where worthless.

So there you go. if you have questions please ask if I don't know I might be able to help find out.

Hmmm, Still life or...????

Everyday when it is time for me to start to paint, I sometimes don't really have what I want to paint ready in my mind. I am really trying to start with the still life but silly me forgets and then I sit and wonder. Well darn it no one is perfect. But I do have to say choosing a still life is not that easy.
you have to think about interest, value, and composition. Sometimes you don't know if what you saw or wanted to paint looks all that great until after you get it all finished.

I figure if I start with a still life it will give me practice and a warm up to start my paint day.

You might try this works great for me (if I remember) thats not saying much for my memory I know

Moving along PAINT EVERYDAY the benefits

SOLD

I think I told you all, that I have signed up and now a part of the daily paintworks site. I am so excited I sold my first painting from the site yesterday. I will be shipping the painting off to the new owner on Monday. It makes my heart sing to know that this piece will be loved. I also helps to motivate me to keep painting. I know that painting everyday has been the best thing for me even if all I am able to do is a study, usually if I start out saying at least get a study complete then if it is a day I have more time to paint I will continue because it just becomes a warm up for me.

So I am saying because I know that it works if you don't have time to paint it is because you don't have your paints set up, I would suggest you set up your painting area where you can go to even if you have a hour you are able to paint a small study and all you learn and practice then can stay fresh.

OK, that is my hint for the day

Right now my kids are living with us while they are saving money which means I have been able enjoy my 10 month old grandson. One of the benefits is that I have some fun things to paint.
There are so many pictures of my grandson that
my next goal is to learn to do portraits

I will let you know how that goes.

Different styles make for lots of fun

I attend a local art workshop when I can, our latest workshop was on exploring art with self portraits.
Remember the word exploring when you see what I did. I had a blast as I do all my workshop.

We used the examples of many of the masters some dating as far as the mid 1500's amazing how creative they could be.

I would suggest that you all try it.

Pure Sweetness 6x6 oil on a panel

I have tried to bake throughout my life and I like it, but I am not good at it and I usually eat too much while I am baking and make my self sick yuck.

I painted a cupcake before along with others in a workshop and I really liked that much more.
When you paint a cupcake, you can't eat the dough, they are fat free, sugar free, gluten free, and after it is all pretty it can stay the way forever. no more worries about anyone eating them or that they could go bad if no one does eat them.

So I think I will stay with painting them.

"Thank you Papa" 8x8 Acrylic on a panel

These boots are very special because one very proud great grandpa shopped and bought these for his first great grandson and for my first grandson. This special purchase was done 10 years ago.
As you can see they are not very big so as children do at that age he grew out of them really fast.
But don't not despair I say because my second grandson is able to wear them. But again not so long.
I am blessed though because the third grandson was just born and so they will be sent to Idaho next.

After that well who knows I do have another grand baby coming in May but we will not know if we are having a boy or a girl.

Let you know in May.

My post today the cow is on a small panel and a sight I see regularly living in Valley I think that is why I love cows. or could it be that I love cows and that is why I love living in Valley Center. Whatever the case here is a cow.

Thank you

One Task Completed

I have a list of things I need to do or what I want to do. One of the things on my list was to start my profile on a site called Daily paint works. I know other artist that have been successful in marketing their artwork on the site.

I now need to post daily on the site. I feel if I have this goal that it will do two things one help me to improve and two get my art work out in the public so I can first hear how I am doing, or sell some of my paintings.

So I would love if you go there and see me dailypaintworks.com and all the other awesome artist.

Took a long break

I took a long break only from posting I have still been painting.
Today I thought I would try to use my acrylics again haven't used them in awhile.
I can't believe how different the two mediums are. I think I still rather use my oils.
One thing I have noticed that I don't have brushes that will work good it is very hard to get a smooth stroke that I like with the brushes I have. I need to do more research on what the better brushes are.

In the oils after attending a workshop with Carol Marine and using her brushes I realized how important that good brushes are. I believe you can probably do ok with brushes that are inferior but it is very frustrating and slower.

My newest goal is to set myself up with a website that you daily post your daily paintings. You see another thing I learned with Carol is that you need your work somewhere where you have a PayPal set up so all the buyer would need to do is hit a button that says pay now. Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy .

So the off to try to work on that goal so as to cross it off my list of a million things to do. ( honestly not exaggerating) ok a little.
